READ & UNDERSTAND

The seed in the tin.

Lebo found an empty tin beside the door. With an adult’s help, she filled it with soil and planted a bean. Every morning she checked the soil and gave it a little water when it felt dry. For several days, nothing appeared. Then a small green shoot pushed through the soil. Lebo moved the tin near a sunny window and drew the plant in her notebook.

1. What did Lebo plant?
2. Which word best describes Lebo?

Talk together: Why did Lebo check the soil before adding water? Draw what you think the plant looked like a week later.
